Cheyenne Wilson, CAT-LP

Cheyenne has always been an artist and enjoyed an interest of the connection between art and psychology. Cheyenne majored in psychology and minored in studio art while at Queens College, where she connected to art mediums such as drawing, painting, ceramics and textiles. She also resonated with some of the first theories of psychology, such as belief in the process of self-actualization, focusing on the present to create a deeper understanding of the whole (self/life), and the value in processing unconscious material, dream analysis, and the impact of one’s early childhood experiences.

Cheyenne earned her Master’s in Creative Arts Therapy from Hofstra, where she began to develop a deeper understanding of how art connects to psychology, and more importantly of how art is a projection of one’s psyche. She deeply connected to Carl Jung’s model of the collective unconscious and how symbols/archetypes give insight into one’s internal world. Cheyenne was inspired by the founding women of creative arts therapy, Edith Kramer and Margaret Naumburg, who established that creating art itself is therapeutic and that there is indeed a connection between art and the psyche.

Cheyenne studied abroad in Ireland, which allowed her to further dive into how culture, art, upbringing, and the psyche integrate to create a whole person. Through her clinical work, Cheyenne has developed an eclectic approach to therapy that includes a combination of art and talk therapy. Cheyenne focuses on grief, communication, family dynamics, self-care skills, and other ways to help her clients to become full, actualized versions of themselves.
